Novokuznetsk (Новокузне́цк) is a city and the administrative center of Novokuznetsky
District of Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.
It is located c.3,000 km (1,875 miles) E of Moscow.
The Novokuznetsk urban agglomeration which includes the towns of Kiselyovsk, Mezhdurechensk,
Kemerovo Oblast and Prokopyevsk.
Founded in 1618 by men from Tomsk as a Cossack ostrog (fort) on the Tom River,
it was initially called Kuznetsk (Кузне́цк).
In 1931–1932 the city was known as Novokuznetsk and between 1932–1961 as Stalinsk (Ста́линск),
after Stalin.

It is often referred to as Spichenkovo, the name of the nearby town.
