Wycombe District
Council serves an area of approximately 325 km (125
square miles) and a population of 162,000. The
District is situated south west of Buckinghamshire
and is linked to the M40 motorway at 3 junctions -
3, 4 and 5. There are rail links to
Birmingham
and London's Marylebone Station via the Chiltern
Railways line.
The Wycombe District has three historic town
centres - urban High Wycombe, the small town of Princes Risborough and
Marlow on the River Thames.
All three centres are surrounded by the scenic countryside of the Chilterns and
the Thames Valley, most of which is Green Belt and within the Chilterns Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty.
High Wycombe has undergone a period of
renewal and continues to address regeneration and environmental enhancement,
with a brand new redevelopment project called Eden - a major new retail and
leisure facility, plus new housing, library, bus terminal and open public
spaces.
Major companies within the District include
Dunn and Bradstreet, Volvo, SAAB, Verco, Ercol and Rank Hovis McDougall.
Most indoor and outdoor sports are catered for and the football club has a first
class modern stadium which is now shared with the Rugby team, London Wasps. It
also boasts a beautiful theatre, The Wycombe Swan which seats 1,000 people and
hosts many of the country's leading shows
